Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
1 Cor 13:1 KJV.
I love 1Cor 13, the entire chapter.
Let’s read verses 2&3,
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
Can you imagine, though our faith is important, after all the Bible says without faith, it is impossible to please God,
and though our generosity to the poor & needy is important, because the same Bible tells us that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35.
And the ultimate is sacrifice is giving your body to be burnt, in other words, dying for others and for your beliefs,
yet this same Bible tells us that doing all these will profit us nothing, if it is not done out of love.
The Bible goes on to compare faith, hope and (charity)love and concludes that the greatest of all three is love, that is charity.
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
1 Cor13: 13 KJV
God himself is the embodiment of love. Love is the true existence of God.
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
1 John 4:16 KJV.
We are told in Rom 12:9
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
That means our love should be sincere, honest, no pretence, no faking, no lying, no deceit.
May God help us all as we strive towards holiness and perfection as our heavenly father.
Almighty Father, help us to reflect your love in all our activities, in our lives, in our families, our relationships, in our interactions with people, in our giving, in our serving, in our jobs, in everything we do, that your name alone will be glorified in Jesus mighty name.
May our love be sincere and genuine and be pleasing to you Lord. Amen.
